Traditionally, CMU concrete block walls were the most common solution for concrete security walls, privacy walls, sound walls, noise walls, and boundary walls. CMU concrete block walls serve a purpose but simply are not as efficient as a concrete precast wall. CMU concrete block walls require a continuous footer or foundation. The foundation is basically a trench that has to be dug wherever the wall line is and everything has to be cleared from this trench. Tree roots, utilities, plumbing, and irrigation have to be re routed and this adds to the cost of installing the wall.
When the earth under a CMU concrete block wall settles, the concrete foundation usually shifts. When this shift occurs, a crack in the wall appears. Some people call this the concrete block wall "Stair Step Effect." It is very rare to see a CMU concrete block wall that does not have a crack like this somewhere. This can make what was once a very attractive concrete wall look like a wall in desperate need of repair.
A precast concrete fence wall is designed differently. With a Permacast concrete precast wall, there is a foundation every ten feet so a Permacast fence wall can easily straddle these common hindrances.
The concrete used in a common concrete block wall or concrete CMU wall is normally about 4 times the concrete needed to build a Permacast concrete fence wall and these savings are passed on to the customer.
A Permacast precast wall is also much faster and efficient to install than common CMU concrete block walls. A Permacast wall can sometimes be installed in 1/3 the time. This time savings creates a huge reduction in labor cost and once again, these savings are passed on to the customer.
